IBS is proud to announce that its President and Founder, Peder Kolind, has been inducted into the Security Sales and Integration (SSI) Hall of Fame 2014.
Each year, SSI’s Hall of Fame "pays tribute to those remarkable people who have had an unforgettable impact on the industry, continuously sustained over the duration of a long and illustrious career." According to the Hall of Fame award, Peder Kolind "introduced the mass-marketing model to the electronic security industry after presenting his ideas to the top managers at Pittston Corp. who deployed the concept through Brink’s Security."
"The approach was: package a basic alarm system, use the media to market it, sell it at a uniform low price with costs recouped through monthly monitoring fees, install it immediately and bypass traditional channels used at the time."
In particular, the SSI profile highlights that Kolind's trail-blazing is now industry standard. "Almost every company that uses a low-cost, direct-marketing approach to building a business harkens back to Kolind’s model", states Scott Goldfine, the author of the SSI profile.
When he started to commercialize the radical new business model, he could not find a software partner to support mass market monitoring. So he started a software company and that company, Innovative Business Software, continues to support the largest security organizations in the world, including some of those that he himself started.
Peder Kolind, who has worked for 2 decades in Central America with various personally-financed philanthropic projects, states in response to the induction, "I'm proud to be recognised now for my importance of the decisions that I took at the beginning of my career, when there was no mass-market security company. In the time that has passed since 1982, it has become apparent that this was the only sustainable business model for meeting the needs of millions of homeowners to have access to affordable security services."
Honorees are recognized in an official induction ceremony held during the SAMMY Awards on the eve of ISC West (April 9) at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas. Read the full profile here.
